The Three Refuges are chanted at the beginning of every ceremony and often to start any formal Buddhist occasion. They are a testimony by Buddhists of their increasing trust in the Buddha, the teacher, the Dharma, his teaching, and the Sangha, his followers. As we practice and test the Buddhas teachings for ourselves, confidence increases and we are able to tread the path to enlightenment with greater certainty.
